Ingredients

For the Base and Layers:

  • 300 grams chocolate cookies
  • 1 cup milk (or plant-based milk alternative)

For the Cream Filling:

  • 400 grams cream cheese (or a dairy-free alternative)
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk (or coconut condensed milk)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Topping:

  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  • Prepare the Cookie Layers: First, pour the milk into a shallow dish. Then, dip each chocolate cookie briefly in the milk so they absorb just enough liquid to soften without getting mushy. As a result, you get a sturdy yet tender base.
  • Mix the Cream Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese with the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract. Next, whisk until the mixture is smooth and uniform. This cream will be the heart of your chocotorta, ensuring a rich, velvety taste.
  • Assemble the Dessert: Start by arranging a single layer of dipped cookies at the bottom of a rectangular dish. Then, spread a generous layer of the cream mixture on top. Consequently, repeat this process, alternating between cookies and cream, until you have used all ingredients. Finally, finish with a layer of cream on the top.
  • Chill and Set: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight. This chilling process allows the layers to meld together perfectly, making each slice delightfully firm and creamy.
  • Serve: Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder to add a hint of extra chocolate flavor and a decorative touch. Then, slice into neat pieces and enjoy this luscious treat.

Notes

  • If you prefer a lighter texture, try whisking the cream filling for a few minutes to incorporate some air.
  • For an extra twist, consider layering in some sliced bananas or strawberries between the cookie layers.
  • Ensure the cookies are dipped quickly in milk; otherwise, they may become too soggy.
  • This dessert is best served chilled, so plan accordingly if you need to prepare it in advance.
